The Holocaust
During World War II, there was something much crueler and deeper going on in Europe than simply war: the Holocaust; or the mass killing of Jews by Hitler. Adolph Hitler, as a part of his "Final Solution", gathered up all people of Jewish descent and sent them to concentration camps; prisons designed to exterminate all Jews. The biggest and most effective concentration camp was Auschwitz. 1.3 million people were deported to Auschwitz overall: including Jews, Gypsies, Poles, and even some Russians and Ukrainians; and 1.1 million were killed there.
